If your interested in starting a deer farm we know from experience that you have a lot of questions. The first thing to consider is visiting some local deer farms. This will give you an idea of what it will take to start a deer farm. We have met some really nice deer farmers, one in particular, Ken McIntosh who has helped us with many of our questions.
You may be wondering how much money you will need to get started. The answer would be... as much as you want to spend. We can help you get started with just a couple of deer or as many as you would like.
We would recommend starting small and getting to know the deer and their behavior. I grew up on a farm with pigs and shorthorn cattle. The biggest difference I’ve found is the handling methods. Growing up if you wanted to move cattle you just got in there and moved them wherever, but this is not the case with deer. You have to let them go at their own pace.
Another question you may have is how much land do you need. You can start with as little as a 100' by 100' pen or as big as you would like. There are various options when starting out so feel free to contact us with questions.
We would be happy to help you get started and answer any other questions you may have. We can help you get started by getting you all your fencing supplys, helping you with pen layout, and getting your deer. We have found the deer business to be both fun and financialy rewarding. Feel free to come and visit our farm or just give us a call anytime. 1-260-318-2419 Nate Rodenbeck 1-260-347-6520 Lynn Lash
